BPE, RMT, NSCA Strength Coach
Gina Perez graduated from the University of Ottawa in 1994 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education (with Honors). During this time, her dedication and drive as an athlete earned her a spot as a member of the Canadian Women’s Olympic Weightlifting Team.
With experience as an athlete and education in hand, Gina worked at the Ottawa Sport Science Centre testing some of Canada’s professional and National level athletes, as well as creating and implementing rehabilitation protocols for the clients. She also worked as a program facilitator at Nortel’s Fitness Centre in Ottawa, where she was in charge of designing Lunch and Learns, as well as fitness programming for Nortel employees. In 1997, Gina received certification with the NSCA as a certified strength and conditioning specialist and also became one of the first strength coaches in Canada to be certified in ART therapy (see FAQ). With her expansive experience and knowledge of training principles and injury prevention and rehabilitation, she was hired as the Strength Coach for the Ottawa Senators NHL hockey team for the 1997 – 1998 season. After that stint, she decided to start her own business as a Strength Coach with a focus on the individual, customized programming for amateur and professional athletes of all ages, and all sports.
In 1998, she was recruited to try out for the National Women’s Bobsleigh Team, where she learned to pilot a bobsleigh and understand the demands of this intense sport. From 1999-2002 the sport of amateur boxing peaked Gina’s interest and she was Silver Gloves Champion in 2000 in Spruce Grove, AB., as well as champion south of the border in Kalispell, Montana.
The experience of boxing and bobsleigh just added to the pool of knowledge that was provided to bring the manifestation of Muscle Health Management to life. With the knowledge of how to make athletes stronger for their sport and the public more functionally fit, Gina knew that there was a need for therapeutic massage but not just for the athlete.
In 2004, Gina received her level 2 Thai massage from the Meridian Thai Massage School and was a member of the National Health Practitioners of Canada.
In 2006, she was fortunate to be one of only two people in Canada who were certified in the use of a hand-held pain management device called a Fenzian machine (see FAQ). Armed with this valuable, non-invasive tool for pain, swelling and bruising reduction, her clientele base grew as many people booked to see her for immediate relief of an injury. Most were able to move pain-free in 1 or 2 sessions due to the administration of Fenzian quickly after the injury occurred, and many more clients with fibromyalgia and chronic pain were experiencing relief. In 2009 Gina completed the certification for Level 1 and 2 Kinseotaping, and her certification in TRX training.
In 2011, she completed the 2200 hours requirement for her RMT (Registered Massage Therapy) certification and is fully certified by the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada under the policy of Massage Therapy and ART, and Thai Massage.
Gina’s mission is to utilize her knowledge and skills to assist her clients in gaining back mobility and moving pain free while achieving functional fitness and health goals with a focus on injury prevention.
